WestPac Fall Business Meeting - Wed., Sept. 29, at 2pm Pacific

Dear WestPac members,

Please mark your calendars for WestPac’s Fall Business Meeting that will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, September 29, at 2pm Pacific time. We need at least 20 members to attend so that we have a quorum to vote on Life Member nominees (Jaye Barlous, Stacey Gordon Sterling, and Harriet Zook), install new officers, and hear updates from WestPac committees.

If you are a committee chair, please start preparing your reports for the meeting. Please send those to me before the meeting or let me know if you plan to give a verbal report during the Zoom meeting.

It promises to be a very brief meeting — 30 minutes maximum — so please make every effort to attend, especially to show your support for our Life Member nominees.

I will send Zoom log-in details on the WestPac listserv a few days before the meeting.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 29th!

Thank you,

David McClure

WestPac President

Call for Westpac Life Membership Nominations

The WestPac Membership Committee invites nominations for life membership.

Our chapter bylaws provide that to qualify for life membership, the nominee must:

1) have been an active member of the chapter for ten or more years;

2) have reached the age of 55 years or older; and

3) have retired from active law library work.

A benefit of life membership is the waiver of annual dues. Additional information may be found on our website.

We hope to profile nominees in the summer newsletter and vote at the annual business meeting this fall.

If you are interested, please send your nomination along with a short bio and profile photo to us by Monday, August 2.

Thank you,

Ashley Sundin, Membership Committee Chair

WestPac Grant recipients and a new deadline!

On behalf of the Grants Committee, I’m delighted to announce that Anna Russell has been awarded the AALL Registration Grant and Julie Horst has been awarded a WestPac grant to cover the cost of registering for the AALL Virtual Conference. We have more money to give away, however, so we are extending the deadline to apply for the four remaining registration grants. If you wish to apply for an AALL registration grant funded by WestPac, please complete the application and email it to Hilary Hardcastle (hardcast@uchastings.edu) by Friday, July 2. The grant application can be found here (You may need to open in a new tab to access the file). Remember, you don’t need to be an AALL member to apply for one of the WestPac grants.

Apply Now for a WestPac Registration Grant for AALL

WestPac just learned that we are eligible for AALL’s complimentary conference registration this year. The grant is intended to go to a newer member of AALL who is also a member of WestPac. Unfortunately, the deadline to notify AALL of our chosen recipients is June 15. As a result, we are seeking grant applications on an accelerated schedule. If you wish to apply for the AALL grant or one of five AALL registration grants funded by WestPac, please complete the attached application and email it to me by Sunday, June 13. The good news is you don’t have to submit any letters of recommendation! And you don’t need to be an AALL member to apply for one of the WestPac grants. The grant application can be found here (You may need to open in a new tab to access the file).

On behalf of the Grants Committee, I urge you to apply! As a reminder, the AALL conference is virtual again this year. The dates are July 19-23.
